Atjazz Moment Re-Fixes

for as long as i can remember i have loved to sing, and did so for the majority of my early life. then i stopped. publicly, anyway. a couple of years ago i decided to pick up the mic. mostly live and improv and near the end of the night, when no one would much notice if i sounded horrible. i sang a little here and there on some tracks, but no full vocals.

my dear friend of seventeen years, Sean O’Daniels, has known about my desire to sing, and sing more! he also is great at kindly pushing me to do what i want – he locked me in the club fifteen years ago and encouraged me to practice deejaying. this time around, he asked me to sing a vocal for one of his tracks.

he gave me the initial version and i sat with it for a month or so, and then we recorded in January. i was so nervous! (i get that way whenever i try to do something i really want.) the day of studio was a crazy crazy day, with my son completely off the chain, his firey energy bouncing off the walls. needless to say i was a bit frazzled.

i did end up getting about an hour before we met, during which i completely rewrote the verses of the song, and somewhat modified the chorus, which i had been playing with over the past two years of late night improv. once there, i sang for about an hour, over and over, and walked out feeling like it was kind of blah. sea legs, no doubt.

sean put it away for a few days and then when he pulled it out, it turned out to be better than i thought. yay for the blessing of being on key in this incarnation! he worked his magic, and we now have a record, out in June on Headset Recordings. we have some great remixers, and as soon as i get permission to tell you who those are, believe me, i will.

as you can see, there have been some changes around here. i decided to start fresh after over a year of not writing. i needed a break and to find a new focus, on my site, and in my life.
